Etymology of TUNGSTIC ACID
The word "tungstic acid" is derived from the element tungsten. Tungsten was discovered in the 18th century and was originally named "wolfram" by Swedish scientist Peter Woulfe. The name "wolfram" comes from the mineral tungsten ore, which was called "wolframite" and was often found associated with tin ores.
In 1781, another Swedish scientist Carl Wilhelm Scheele obtained an acid by dissolving wolframite in acid and named it "tungstic acid". The word "tungstic" is derived from "tungsten", referring to the element from which the acid is derived. Over time, "tungstic acid" became a commonly used term to describe the acid derived from tungsten.
